Ignore Settings Layout

I know the table displaying who is ignoring you, and what they're ignoring from you, look asthetically pleasing, but: It's jibberish for us JAWS users, lol. We read straight down and get nothing but lines of X, X, X...

Can't this be redesigned to be slightly more intuitive?

agreed!

Doesn't Jaws have some fancy tables mode like windoweyes to make table navigation simple and easy?

there's nothing wrong with the lay out in my view! at the top of the page it says private mail person watch and all that and the X means people are ignoring you for that particular thing.

no X then you are not bieng ignored

not really, it's quite confusing

Post 6 by rat (star trek rules!) on Monday, 05-Dec-2005 11:32:34

anyway how can yoTell where the x is in the row? it doen't tell you what thing it relates to.

Yes, Jaws does have a table navigation.

I just used, or tried using, the JAWS table navigation commands. But they don't seem to work for the ignore information on here. Whether it's because of the way these particular tables are laid out or just the fact that the commands are different for reading tables on a web site than in a Word document, I don't know.

Post 9 by rat (star trek rules!) on Monday, 05-Dec-2005 12:14:52

the commands are different for word and the web` it would be nice if they weren't

Post 10 by BB (move over school!) on Monday, 05-Dec-2005 13:44:31

Yeah the JAWS commands being different are a pain in the ass. With the newest JAWS there is a way to change how JAWS sees the page layout. Either you can have simple form or screen layout. Screen layout reads the screen how it appears. Can be useful in some table reading, haven't tried it on the ignore table yet, have on the rest of the site and takes time to get use to.

I am not that good with navigating tables with jaws myself, but alt control and left and right arrow will read across the table in jaws. :)

With JAWS the table headers are presented in the exact order of the corresponding column in each row of the table. E.G.
<table border="0">
<tr>
<th>Day of the Week</th><th>Date</th><th>Time</th>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Monday</td>
<td>December 5, 2005</td>
<td>9:37 PM</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Tuesday</td>
<td>December 6, 2005</td>
<td>10:30 AM</td>
</tr>
</table>

damn, it just sent my code didn't process it.

OK. I think I have a solution for this. The problem is with the other columns being blank, so I added dashes to those columns so they will now show up for a screen reader. Will this work? It's not on the main site yet, but may be by the time you read this.
